Miles Traveled: 520 (Rapid City, South Dakota to Great Falls, Montana on Thursday, May 30)
This was our longest travel day to date! The weather was gloomy and rainy which resulted in some white knuckled driving on Adam's part. I offered to drive, but for some reason he declined.
When we turned onto I-15 in Montana we were overcome with the beauty that opened up before us. The scenery was absolutely breath-taking and we didn't mind that we had been sitting in the car for 9 hours. I looked at Adam and professed my love for Montana. If you have ever been there you there you will understand my infatuation. Pictures just do not do it justice. You cannot deny that God had a hand in the beauty that surrounded us.
I believe I may have said a few times, "I could live here." The pastures filled with cattle, the mountains that were snow capped, the rivers and lakes that surrounded the highways were picturesque. I truly hope that we are able to return one day.
We pulled into Malmstrom Air Force base at nine and were looking forward to a later start to our drive the next day, due to a meeting Adam had in the morning. We were also excited that our time in the car was only going to be a little over four hours; a cake walk, after the long drive we had from South Dakota to Montana. Little did we know the excitement that was in store for us.
